Toyota Motor Europe wants to increase the opportunities for hydrogen and has now set up the Fuel Cell Business Group to do so. The group manages hydrogen activities in the region from Brussels.

The new group will promote hydrogen activities in the region, make the technology accessible to new business partners and support the establishment of hydrogen in mobility and other fields. “The benefits of hydrogen areobvious,” said Thiebault Paquet, director of the Fuel Cell Business Group. “We therefore expect global sales of our fuel cell systems to increase by a factor of ten in the short term and have significantly increased our production capacities. Toyota is investing significantly in the hydrogen society through next-generation vehicles, opening new markets and technology applications, as well as increasing fuel cell production and in our organization here in Europe.

To accelerate hydrogen diffusion, Toyota will focus on hydrogen clusters or ecosystems in European centers where transportation fleets and mobility services are supported by local infrastructure, he said. Activities such as these are expected to increase demand for hydrogen, lower costs and strengthen the supply infrastructure, which in turn will convince more customers, according to Toyota. It also says it will work closely with industry partners, governments and agencies, and organizations through the new Fuel Cell Business Group to advance the development of hydrogen ecosystems in more locations and move toward the goal of a hydrogen society.
