Project description
In ELAAN, an electric drive system is being developed for utility and work vehicles such as for municipal transport logistics, gardening and road construction activities, waste management, snow clearing and street cleaning services. The drive system is typically characterised by dynamic performance requirements during driving. This will be provided through an efficiency-optimised electric motor and inverter drive combination, rather than a conventional combustion engine as is generally the case today. In order to cover the high energy demands of the drive system during the long-term use of auxiliary equipment, a zero-emission range extender will be deployed for the battery. The design and management of the range extender, battery, power electronics and motor is to be optimised with the aid of simulations in accordance with typical load profiles of utility and work vehicles, and electrical and mechanical interfaces are to be harmonised while taking existing standards into account. The innovative drive system will be integrated into the drive platform of a T-1250 “LADOG” utility vehicle for the purpose of testing the system under practical conditions until project conclusion.
